Cable providers now offer a digital home phone service which works very much the same way as traditional landline telephone service, but it’s a bit cheaper. The only thing that’s different really is the technology used to send and receive calls. You use the same telephone you always have, and you dial the same way you always have, and all of your calling features work the same way. Call quality is generally good, as is the reliability, although there are a few known issues.
A digital cable phone line may have issues when there is a power outage, and 911 service works differently than with landline. For more details, please see Landline Phone Service Alternatives
