I don’t do a lot of reviews for services I’ve used, but this is going to be an exception, because I think it’s important for people who are looking for a good reliable digital phone line to know of one exceptionally good provider. 8×8, formerly Packet8 has been my home phone provider since 2004, and I can tell you without hesitation they are one of, if not the best.
8×8 is not the largest digital phone provider, they are not the cheapest, not the oldest (pretty close though), and certainly not the most well known. It’s a shame more people don’t know about this company, and here’s why.
Excellent Service for The Price
As I mentioned, they’re not the cheapest, but you will get more bang for your buck than with just about any other provider. For starters, when you sign up (at the time of this writing) you’re presented with the option of a free whole house, or expandable base VoIP phone system, or an upgraded one for about $20 more. The reason this is such a big deal is it’s been a standard offering of theirs for many years.
One problem with VoIP is you can only plug one phone into the VoIP router (sometimes called a VoIP adapter). The phone base for 8X8 IS a router, and a phone all in one, plus it’s expandable up to 10 handsets. None of which need to be physically plugged into the router. They only need a power source. Just plug it into the wall (electrical outlet, not a phone jack). The calling features like call blocking, call forwarding, call waiting, and caller ID are just a fraction of the free features that are actually included.
Unlimited plans start at $24.99 /mo. excluding taxes and fees. That’s still nearly half the cost of an unlimited landline, but with a ton more features.
8×8 Call Quality & Reliability
Top notch! Really. It does what it’s supposed to do, and it does it well. The only catch here is the quality and speed of your ISP.

the year but for me it proved a big mistake. If you cancel any time within that year there
is NO REFUND. I lost nine months = $180.00. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out
